About Us
From the street
to the mine
It all started 20 years ago, growing up in Karibib, a small mining town in central Namibia. Tourmaline and other minerals were the talk of the town. Small miners searched for all kinds of stones and sold them on the streets — the beginning of a business destined for the gemstone trade.
Today, Kariongo Trading, a branch of Indigo Blue Gemstones Namibia, owns over ten mining claims in the Erongo Area between Wilhemstal and Omaruru — mining only tourmaline. A multicultural team with diverse skills works these mines.
Vision
To be tourmaline miners and enthusiasts by creating a unique gemstone experience from Namibia to the world.
Mission
To provide a high level of integrity, professionalism, trust and commitment to clients by developing long-term relationships.

The Mines
Otjikatjango,
Omapyu, Neuschwaben
Namibia offers a whole variety of minerals and gemstones. Indigo Blue Namibia is solely concentrated on tourmaline, found mainly in the Erongo Region — on various claims between Wilhemstal and Omaruru. Otjikatjango and Omapyu are the biggest and most productive mines.
In this area a large pegmatite vein runs parallel to the Erongo Mountains — perfect for tourmaline mining. The claims produce blue, green and pinkish-red. The well-known “Neuschwaben” mine, famous for its dark blue tourmalines, is also in this area.

From rock to stone
Four phases,
one journey
Mining varies according to the size and complexity of the operation. Blasting and drilling with excavators, loaders and compressor-powered drilling machines open the pegmatite veins. The rough stones are collected, cut and distributed worldwide.
Prospection
Geological mapping of the pegmatite veins running parallel to the Erongo Mountains. Surface probing by experienced prospectors.
Extraction
Blasting and drilling. Excavators, loaders and drilling machines powered by compressors work the veins according to size and complexity.
Sorting
Rough stones are collected and sorted by color, size and quality — blue, green and pinkish-red separated.
Cutting & Distribution
The rough stones are cut into wonderful pieces and sold locally, to Europe and all around the world.
